...but do you even recognize the other LOTL on your site? Granted it paled in comparison but it still bore the same name.

The other LOTL is probably not taboo, but most original LOTL fans hate the show. It's the LOTL equivilent of Star Trek:Voyager.

I'll come out and say it if no one else will. I despise the newer one. As far as I am concerned it does not exist. It's kind of like the way I feel about the old Godzilla movies compared with the 1998 movie. But I respect the tastes of others.

Yeah, Jay, I want that crap far from me too.

I watched a couple of episodes of the new one, but I soon hated it.

The new LOTL would have been better if they had called it something else..."Lost Campground" or "Dinosaur Park"...with the name Land of the Lost. It was expected to be something. IT DID NOT live up to expectations! It was pale by comparison.
I remember an interview of George Lucas years ago when he said 'a special effect without a story is a pretty booring thing'...The new show may have had better SFX, but NO adventure, NO mystery, NO intrigue. There were only 2 episodes that even came close to the quality of writing from the first series.
"Kevin vs. the Volcano" and "Dreammaker". The rest of the series should have been called 'camping with the Porters'. As I've gotten older I've actually even come to like the fact that the original show was a studio show. It intensifies the 'closed universe' feeling of the show. The outdoor locations of the new show completly destroyed any sense of this being an alien world. I tried to like the new show...but it was kind of like taking star trek. and instead of Capn. Kirk,
lets make the captain a woman. and instead of doing stories about strange new worlds...we'll do shows about our captain having an affair with her first officer...and...well you get the idea.
That's all for now.

Actually, when I had heard that "Land of the Lost" was back on television earlier this decade, I tuned in fully expecting to see reruns of the original episode. What I got was a joke! I watched one episode, wondering what the heck I was supposed to be watching, and turned the set off in disgust. This was not what I was looking for. It would not be for several more years before I would once again see an episode of my favourite programme, which I had not seen for over 20 years... Yes, that's right -- until TVLand started running them again, I had not seen an episode of "Land of the Lost" in over 20 years, and yet it left such an impression on my young mind I had been looking for it ever since!

I'll have to agree with Rick here.

If the new show were called something else, and was just another Kid's show, it would have been pretty cool.

Setting it up as Land of the Lost part II gave the show way too much baggage. No way could it ever compete with the original.

As a Saturday morning show it was cool, as Land of the Lost, it wasn't.

I have in the works a story that blends
and explains the new (evolving) LOTL.
The Pylons were destroyed half a century
LOTL time, ago. Since time runs faster in
LOTL, and the magic of tv, we missed that.
Basically its the same LOTL. The land in
my progressing work, EVOLVED. And is
growing. The Sleestak EVOLVED. Yes,
there are other Sleestak other than Shung.
Stink, the Paku is a fith generational
Pakuni descended from Chaka! :)
In one episode Kevin, fell through a gaping
hole left by one of the destroyed Pylons.
(the episode filmed at Vaszquez Rocks).
Any way thats a taste of my story I am
working on. What do ya think? :)
Oma oua sasa!

They filmed a 90's LOTL at Vasquez Rocks? The same place where Kirk fought the Gorn (and Bruce Dern was killed by the Zanti Misfits in The Outer Limits)?

That's one 90's LOTL I wouldn't mind seeing. I'll bet there've been a thousand or more TV episodes filmed at Vasquez Rocks.

*laughing at most of the post*
Now the most important question of all concerning the (new) LOTL. Where in the world did they get the gas to keep that damned Jeep running for an entire season? Hehe

Oh man, I think I remember that one. Weird.

I can't recall how they explained the Sleestak and Pakuni...IIRC, in the episode where Stink's grandfather came back, we were told that the Pakuni used to be slaves to the Sleestak, but something happened and...well, I don't know.

Every now and then, I'll start humming the theme to new LOTL and get a craving to buy the released episodes on tape and just sit down and watch them all. Considering the show is one of the few I can remember watching as a kid (aside from cartoons and Star Trek, of course), it would be fun to go back and watch them all.

A lot of people here grew up with the original, and loved it. Well, a select few people grew up on the newer version, and loved it. I, like many others, didn't even know it was a remake until I started looking it up online. And that's how I stumbled upon this site and all goodness of the original. So, in a roundabout way, you have the new version to thank for getting a whole new generation interested in the original. It's a closed universe! AIEE! http://www.landofthelost.com/ubb/wink.gif

That is what I recall, the Pakuni were used as slaves or eaten by the Sleestak, the three that we meet in the series are criminals exiled to the surface (for bad comedy, appearantly.)

I just watched the first 12 episodes on video (found on ebay for $12 unopened). I must admit, they were not as bad as I thought they would be. I mean, they really stunk, but having never seen them I was pleasently suprised that they actually attempted plot continutiy and that two children could be more annoying that Holly and Will.

The criticism that they have way to much stuff with them is valid, listening to radios and video taping everything is way too stupid, but they do figure out how to use crystals in flashlights.

How many "new" LotL's were there?

There were 26 total episodes, two seasons of 13 episodes each. If you purchased all of the commercially released episodes, I think you're missing one of the middle episodes from the first season.

None of the second season episodes have been released, which is a shame, because they had some very interesting (yet corny) plots. And I think they were actually trying to explain how Christa ended up in the land of the lost.

Looking back, it makes no sense that they had the TV and radio, the Jeep and the camcorder, and all that stuff. But if you set aside that, it's not total crap. If you take a look at the children's TV on today, the 1990s version of LOTL is far better, even if it pales in comparison to the original.
