Looks like I am the first to report this...

http://www.dvdfile.com/software/dvd-video/index.html

Check this out. The first volume of Land of the Lost on DVD will be arriving on 7/25. That's the good news. The bad news is that the four episodes on the DVD will be the same old same old. The Stranger, Paku Who Came to Dinner, Tag Team, and the Search. But the report did say FIRST volume. I guess patience will pay off.

Yea, I was hoping this wasn't set in stone yet, as I am still trying to convince them otherwise. I mean, how many of you want to see the same four episodes on DVD as have already been released on video?

They contacted me last week about doing some work on the extra channels on the DVD, so we'll see what happens. Nothing has been decided about future DVDs or a boxed Land of the Lost set, I'm still lobbying hard!

As soon as they finalize which episodes we voted on for the next videos get picked, then they'll let me know and I'll post it on the site.

Keep your fingers crossed!

Certainly more than four episodes can fit on a DVD, just as Rhino could easily fit more than two episodes on a VHS tape. It certainly would make it easier for them to release as much of the series as possible, if they wouldn't skimp on how much goes on each tape or DVD.

I'd say a reasonable number would be more like four episodes per VHS (that's still under 2 hours) and 8 episodes per DVD. They've got 43 episodes to work with, so it's not like they're in danger of running out of episodes to release by increasing the number of eps on each disk or tape.

The way I read it on the Rhino site, it says this is the "FIRST" DVD to be released in LOTL. This says to me that there'll be MORE!!!!! And each disc at $19.95, an excellent price.
Let's keep writing, and see if we can get all eps on VHS and DVD, or either one.

My guess is that the DVD releases will mirror the VHS releases. In other words, the first DVD we know will contain the same episodes as the first two VHS tapes already out. We also know that the next VHS release will be two more tapes with two episodes each on them, and I'll bet it'll be exactly those four episodes which will go on the second DVD.

OOoh! DVD extras??? I vote for a pylon easter egg where you have to open the pylon then get to the matrix table and click on the coloured crystals in the same sequence from Skylons.

:-) OK I can stop dreaming now...

I went out and bought a DVD player in anticipation of LOTL DVD's. I hope they don't back out. I wish that, if they are going to trickle them out 4 episodes at the time, they would release in the order of the original airing. That way, we could rewatch them and watch the storylines unfold just like they did when we were kids. That was one of my favorite things about the show as a kid, the way creepy things kept slowly falling into place (the sleestaks, Enik, the pylons, the crystals).

Well at least it seems like they are going to release four episodes per disc. That sure beats the paltry two per tape on VHS.

I just got my first DVD player last week (on sale for $150 at Fry's Electronics) and man do they have some cool stuff out there for it. I got Logan's Run and they have an 8 page book of behind the scenes stuff plus a separate audio track with a running director commentary.

One disc in particular caught my eye and that was Stephen King's "The Stand". Now if they can fit a SIX HOUR movie, plus a HALF HOUR making of documentary, and storyboards, and separate audio commentary tracks for several of the actors and crew members on ONE DISK they can surely fit more than four episodes of LOTL on one DVD.

If they plan on adding running commentary by the cast/crew, deleted scenes, or behind the scenes footage on each disk then I could understand.

If you look at the link in my above post however (cut and paste the link or you'll be typing forever), it doesn't look like we'll get many extras other than still photos and a theatrical trailer (maybe the trailer is a commercial for Land of the Lost before it aired) and I don't think that would take up too much room.

Im glad to hear thar Rhino has heard our crys, and is going to put LOTL on DVD. Even if its some of the same episodes on VHS, its better then no LOTL on DVD. I will take anything. MAyby the next DVD will have more episodes, but as for now, Im just glad they are putting something of LOTL on DVD format.

I know that putting only 4 episodes on a DVD is a waste, and you guys (gals) and I know that they can put alot more on a DVD then they do, but we all have to remember one thing. That one thing being, ITS MARKETING BABY!!!!

Brannon is right about one thing, It's all about marketing. If anyone follows the other Krofft series being released, they will see a recurring pattern: A green, a red, a blue... Oops, I meant to say that Rhino releases a couple of individual tapes at a time and partway into the series releases a box set. They did it with Pufnstuf & Sigmund. I don't have a problem with it, except for the fact tha all the cool free goodies are only in the individual tapes (i.e. LOTL iron-ons). The net result being, I bought all the LOTL videos so far & I'll probably buy the DVD too. Hopefully they will interview Walker Edmiston, The Kroffts, David Gerrold Etc. Also If anybody saw the Galaxy Quest video they had an audio track entirely in the alien language. Why not a Pakuni audiotrack?
