As I have been reading posts, I have noticed that a lot of folks seem to be into sci-fi and fiction. So how many people here do a lot of writing?
I've written sci-fi stories since I was a kid, but in the last few years I've been writing mostly poetry.
How about everyone else?

I have 3 stories out there--two on this website.

Cool! I'll have to check them out! What are the titles?
[This message has been edited by Wesley Fan (edited 05-27-2004).]
The titles are Exodus and Personality Split on this site. Personality Split is a sequel to Split Personality where we have another adventure with the "other" Marshalls. The first half retells the story from their point of view, and how they got in that position in the first place. The second half takes place 5 years after Medicine Man (the final LOTL episode), and is a sequel.
Exodus is the story of the Marshall family's final adventure in the LOTL, where Jack, Will, and Holly have spent 10 years in the LOTL post-Medicine Man.
It begins with retelling the story of Rick Marshall's departure from HIS point of view and what happens to him on Earth.
The third story is a Sliders story, because I hated the finale.

I dabble in writing but really have nothing to show for it aside from several unfinished short stories, a poorly written script for a proposed TV show, some fan fiction and an unifished novel. Mostly I have all these seemingly brilliant flashes of creativity and then when I go to write them down on paper...nothing.
I actually tried my hand at LOTL fan fiction but didn't get any farther than a rough premise and a page or two. I was attempting to pen something about the Marshalls stumbling upon a bunch of cryogenically frozen "sleestak" of the Enik variety. It may seem somewhat interesting but I couldn't think of anywhere to go with it.
More Altrusians would be interesting, but depending on when the story is set, something should happen so that they go back home or leave. The old preserve the status quo thing. Knowing the ending before you start writing always helps.

Ah-ha! Altrusians, that's the terminology.
I honestly had no idea what I was writing. I think I was reading an episode guide for the series and then just thought up the concept of Will & Holly stumbling upon some frozen Altrusians, running to get Enik and then...who knows.

I'm a writer of fiction and non fiction, but I don't write fan fiction.*
I find most fan fiction to be of "first draft" quality, but Marc's is actually quite good. If he wanted to change careers, he probably could do pretty well as a professional writer. Though, if he could publish his LOTL stories legally, I’d recommend some minor edits to make the stories flow a bit better.
Personally, I'd love to see "Exodus" embraced by the Kroffts as the definitive story of the Marshalls' final fate in the Land of the Lost.
Speaking of writing in general, an excellent resource for writers is The Writer magazine, which has been around since 1887, and is, in my opinion the best writing-related magazine extant.

*Actually, the first story of any length that I wrote, back in seventh grade, put myself and a friend into the Land of the Lost. But I just wrote that for myself (never finished it, and have since lost it), and never gave any thought to making copies available for others. At the time, I didn’t know there was such a thing as fan fiction.

I am another of the many writers of Land of the Lost fan fiction that are on this site and also on Tyrannosaurus Lex. There are scads of wonderful stories on these two sites and I highly recommend that you read them.
Mine are The Last Journey, Time Portal, and Time Portal part 2. There are great great fun to write and I always welcome comments. (Good ones anyway!!!)
I appreciate the kind words about Exodus. Believe me, there would be no greater LOTL honor than to have the Krofft's comment on it. And of course, with the exception of perhaps a few Back to the Future fan fics I have read, pretty much all fan fics could be improved. Those BTTF fan fics could be novels.
I have one minor change in mind for Exodus, which adds another link to a different LOTL episode. I take pride in keeping continuity with the show. If anyone can find a continuity error and prove it to me, I would change it.
I wish there was a way to be able to publish the story in conjunction with the Kroffts, though I would consider that a pipedream. Screw it--I'll do a shameless plug. Hey George--if you work with the Kroffts on the Season 2-3 DVDs, mention the fan fics on the site. Maybe they will read them.
Could lead to something cool for fan fic authors AND LOTL.com.

Sounds great, Les Fountain. Keep us posted as to the progress of the draft. We have a lot of sci-fi readers on this site.

I write horror novels for a living. Does that count?
(And I can honestly say that LOTL was one of my earliest influences).

Since this thread is about fiction writing, absolutely. Unless, you're writing a nonfiction horror piece. Say,
The Story of the U.S. Tax Code

Nobody seemed to like the LOTL stories I wrote. Oh well, I had fun. I'm thinking about a LOTL-Gilligans Island crossover.

Grumpy, ever the scavenger, ate the crate of plastic explosives that washed up from the swamp before the castaways ever found it. Needless to say, they did not need to use the flyswatter ever again.
