I figure that a lot of us probably have some good ideas for what would be cool for the next boxed set and we could post them in this thread. Maybe we could give Rhino some food for thought!

In one of the commentaries Wesley Eure says that he still has 2 maps of the LOTL from the first 2 seasons at his house (or something to this effect). Any chance we could get scans of those for the next season set or for the website if that doesn't work out?

Anyone else have some ideas?

I tell you, priority number one has got to be to try to get Kathy and Wesley to do commentary for every single episode for the next two seasons.

I just watched the two they did commentary for on the first season set, and I was laughing my ass off. Those two are great together! The commentary from the writers is cool and all, but having Kathy and Wesley sitting there cracking on each other and on whatever is going on onscreen at any given moment, and then suddenly saying "Oh yeah, remember THIS odd thing?", or "Hey, how cool is this bit about the time vortex?", and then going back to poking fun at everything (but clearly loving every second of it)... man, what better, more fitting tone could there be for commentary for these sets than to have a couple of big, overgrown kids goofing around for the benefit of all the REST of us overgrown kids who are diving back into this cool little corner of our childhood? IMHO, their commentary just cranks the fun factor through the roof, and if they can stomach it I'd say that getting a commentary from them for every episode would be the cherry on the cake.

(And let's face it... by season 3, we're gonna need it! Only thing that can take some of the the Costanza factor off of the "Will Busts A Guitar Out Of Nowhere And Starts Singing" moments is to have Wesley and Kathy laughing along with us!) ;)

I wholeheartedly agree. At the same time, maybe we can introduce a scene with Walter Koenig with his arms tied behind him being forced to apologize for such a heartless effort during his interview. Maybe we can show some crystals being held in front of him about to be touched together. Maybe the same three colors that shocked Rick Marshall. Nawwwww, that would be considered torture!

I would say similar packaging (ala "Lord of the Rings") to keep things consistant and at least TWO disks (NO double sided single disk please)!!!

There was such a difference between the cast commentary and Koenig's. Coleman and Eure were able to laugh at things, but it was OBVIOUS they enjoyed the show.

Eure actually seems to be up on his knowledge of the show as if he has watched the show recently. And he respects what happened.

Koenig was just being pompous and condescending. It was obvious he didn't want to be there and was just waiting for the ink to dry on his check before taking a hike. I was very disappointed at the attitude.

Commentary for every episode sounds great (particularly with Wesley & Kathy). Keep Phil Paley away from it, his commenary was boring.
Can you imagine how hard Wesley & Kathy will be laughing during "The Zarn"? (Incidentally, one of my personal favorite episodes!!)

Well, remember that poor ol' Phil didn't have anyone there to play off of when he did his commentary. He'd have probably fared better if he'd had a second cast member there with him. I imagine it's tough to keep the ball rolling without anyone there to spur you on.

Yea, it's a whole different ball of wax when you are by yourself. I have seen Phil and Kathy together more than a few times, and their chemistry is every bit as electric and zany as Wesley and Kathy.

If you put all three of them in a room for an episode or two the whole place would probably fall down.

My girlfriend thought it would be cool to actually see the cast as they do their commentary. On her Goonies DVD the whole cast can be seen during the commentary at the beginning before they start and they would cut back to them periodically during a funny recollection.

Maybe some sort of picture in a picture option or a seperate file/track of just their memories of that episode?

It would be over the top if they were in a pylon setting or High Bluff dressed as their characters during the commentary! :D

p.s. I thought Phillip was really funny when him and Kathy did the interview together for the first Rhino DVD that just had a few episodes. I hope he comes back for the last 2 season sets.

Another idea would be to put those interviews back in to the second season set.

Also, in the first DVD, I was able to use the A/B feature. That is, I press the A/B button, and the player marks the DVD. I press B, and there is a loop. It's similar to the repeat feature on a CD player. 99 percent of DVDs can do that, including the first LOTL DVD, but the Season 1 set doesn't have that feature.

For a Saturday morning kids show, and for the time it was made, the production elements of LOTL were pretty ambitious. It seems that somewhere out there, there must be a documentary on the making of the show. Something with interviews with the effects and production staff and footage of the tabletop sets and animation in process.
That would be quite a find to put on the DVDs.

How about trying to track down Gene Warren Jr., who did a lot of the stop motion work for the show for an interview, and maybe Mike Westmore who did the costumes.

Do Kathy, Phil and Wesley have any behind the scenes stills or even better yet, home movies that they took on the set. Those would be great to include in the next two
seasons.

How were the sets laid out? The interior of the cave and the exterior were on different soundstages, how were the sets put together on the stages? I bet Wes, Kathy and Phil could tell us.

And Interviews from Spencer, Walker and Ron Harper.

May you be through the timedoorway before the sleestacks know your gone!

Hold on! I liked his commentary. I did think, at the time, that it was a rather general commentary on the series in general, but that was cool with me. I liked it. Definitely keep him around for series 2.

I would also like to see a different intro to the disks. You know: the interface that allows users to choose an episode. I expect that Rhino doesn't want to spend more money on a new intro, however if they do, I think it would be cool to feature an approach to High Bluff -- up the rocks and into the cave. Maybe we even see our heroes at work with Uncle Jack looking in the window/hole in the wall ;-).

Cheers,

Rob
