I think I went to Apple Valley about ten years ago. My sister-in-law lives in Yucaipa, and we went to visit her and did some tourist stuff while we were there. It's so weird that you guys in California can commercially grow both citrus and apples in the same general area. In Texas you can only grow citrus at the coast, and most other places it doesn't get cold enough for most apples.

Rhode Island here. First watched Land of the Lost on WJAR channel 10. Reruns were shown on WLNE Channel 6 and Independent Boston stations WXNE channel 25 and WLVI Channel 56. I miss those independent stations, FOX, WB and UPN gobbled them all up within the past 20 years. Lot of great old shows were lost forever. That is what happens when conglomerates take over.

I love Cedar Point. Maybe not so much as Kennywood, but it's still great. Unlike what they've done to Six Flags, the Cedar Point people haven't ruined the place for those of us who don't ride the big roller coasters.
Maybe we can have Sleestak 2007 at Cedar Point.

Hey borg,
That's cool you've heard of cedar point. Yes, they have some of the best coasters in the world there. My favorite is one they put in a couple years ago called "Millennium Force". The first hill is like 320 feet high and your speed on that thing is 92 MPH. I live about 20 minutes from there. Just far enough away that I'm not in the daily chaos that is Cedar Point traffic.

Cedar Point is the coolest Amusment Park I have ever been to because I LOVE roller coasters (never been to Disney or Universial Studios so I can't compare it to those)!! I went a few years ago when the gymnastics team I coach went to Nationals a few hours away. We got there in the early afternoon and road all the coasters and then stood in line for more than 2 hours to ride the Millennium force (I think it might have been the first year for that ride so the line was LONG. The park had closed by the time we got on the ride! It was Midnight and so cool to ride it in the dark so late like that with not many people left in the park (we were pretty much at the end of the line) I prefer coasters that loop upside down but that first drop is incredible and so smooth. I would LOVE to go back again!! If I lived closer, I'm sure I would have a summer pass :) I thought it was that fun!! :o

The things I liked best about Cedar Point were the log ride, especially when I would plunge down that steep decline- the closest one could get to paralleling the Marshalls' "routine expedition"; and the funhouse, which, unfortunately, burned down in 1980 or 1981.
I haven't actually been to Cedar Point since 1984, however. It's only a few hours away.
One of the downsides of Cedar Point is that its relative proximity led to Boblo Island closing in the early 1990s. Boblo, located in the Detroit River, and now the site of private condominiums, was accessible only by boat. The Columbia and the St. Claire took passengers on 20 minute excursions to the island, and provided entertainment enroute.

I can't even remember where we were when we made the detour to go to Cedar Point. We didn't even have an assignment in Ohio. I'm thinking maybe we were on our way to Maine or something.
Anyway, I don't do mega-coasters. I rarely even do modern coasters. The 1927 Racer at Kennywood is about my speed. I rode a few coasters at Cedar Point, but not Millennium or Max. No %^&*ing way. We have the Titan here, and I don't even like to look at the thing. The %^&*ing thing is taller than the oil well tower. Who in their right minds wants to be dropped down a hill that is taller than the tower?
It was fun to go in the souvenir shops under the Millennium and watch the little teddy bears and such jump off of the shelves when all the screaming people went by.
Cedar Point did have some indoor coaster that I skipped, and I wish I hadn't, but my husband can't ride any of them, and I thought I was leaving him alone too much of the time. At Kennywood, we got on The Whip, and he had a good time when he was on the thing, but then he didn't feel so good and had to lie down for about an hour. I don't like big scary rides, but my husband have a condition which mostly limits him to the carousel and the Ferris wheel. He can't even ride the log ride.
Anyway, Cedar Point is still cool, even if you don't ride coasters, and even if you have strange medical conditions that keep you from riding the log ride. Six Flags is almost entirely big thrill rides, and there's just not much left for us to do there. I miss the old stuff. I miss the Kroft stuff. I don't know if the Krofts designed the Speelunkers are not, but they just look like they would have fit right in with the Puffinstuff gang. The Speelunkers are gone, because in the early eighties Bugs Bunny and friends took over The Cave.
While we are talking about amusement parks, did anybody actually get to go the Krofts place the one year it was open? Do you have pictures? We'd love to see.

Yes, Cedar point is cool even if you don't ride the coasters. There's still a ton of stuff to do there including shows and other things like that. They've got a water park called "Soak City" that's pretty cool but it costs you another $15 or so to get in there. As with any other amusement park, everything's all about the dollar bill. I think a season pass is around $100 and then $50 or so for a parking pass. Still, if you went 3 times that year, you have your money's worth as a ticket at the gate is $45 this year. The big thing now with hotel complexes in this area is building them huge with an indoor water park in the lobby. There's at least 2 like that in this area now. Probably wanting more than $300 per night in the summer.
Hey graphix,
Thanks for the post about the Wings. Yes, I think they're going to be in one of those re-building stages for awhile...provided they ever start playing again. I know it's all in fun, I wouldn't ever think otherwise :) I'm bigger into baseball than anything and the tigers still suck this year too. LOL

Hey Tia.....I've been here and there. Thanks for asking. Most of my time online lately has been on the dating sites. LOLOLOL. Trying to find a good man. I belong to about 7 dating sites, so that's where I've been. Is that sad? Hee Hee.
Bethlehem PA is famous for steel. Bethlehem is in between Easton (where I live) and Allentown. It was the home of the Bethlehem Steel plant forever, but it closed down some years back. Now they're thinking of turning that area into a casino. Go figure. Needless to say, the casino is the topic of MUCH debate here these days. The pro-casino'ers want it to attract visitors and more revenue for the city. Those against it fear it for moral reasons mainly. I'm more against it than for it, although not for moral reasons. It's just that I don't really WANT Bethlehem to be a gigantic tourist attraction. I mean, it's already a historic area and attracts lots of visitors....especially during Christmas time with the whole "Star of Bethlehem" and "Oh Little Town of Bethlehem" thing. That's enough for me. It's not too much, it's not too little. But if a casino moves in, I can only envision chaos for the city. I associate it with 3 evils....Drinking, gambling, and prostitution. Hmmmm. Okay, so maybe I am part of the moral soapbox after all. LOL. :o

I've never actually gone to the Renaissance Festival. Are you from around here?
No. My husband and I used to have a job that involved a lot of travel. There was an annual trip to Fort Leavenworth from the middle of September to the middle of October. (He started the job before I did, so he was there three years, but I only went two years.) We had Sundays off and we went to the Renaissance Festival, and K.C. Masterpiece restaurant, and The Beast and The Gateway to Hell haunted houses.
I really did not like working for those people, but there are things that we miss about the job.
Anyway, you have a really good Renaissance Festival there, so you should check it out. Go see the Jolly Rogers. And if you've never gone to one of these before I should tell you that the entertainers work for tips, so bring lots of dollar bills to put in the hats. Also, there are a lot of artists who sell cool jewelry and swords and stuff like that.

I had the opportunity to go and get credit for it when I was taking a class on the Middle Ages. I ended up going to the Monastery in Atchison instead. I have been thinking about checking out the Festival this year. I have been to some of the haunted houses a few times, but they aren't really my cup of tea.
Something vaguely Land of the Lost related: I went to Silver Dollar City once (it's a bit south of here) and they have this attraction there where you go up inside this "treehouse." It's sorta like a haunted house, but it had this one room where you walk across a bridge. It's completely dark and they had a man in there in a black outfit with lights on it. Since it was pitch black in the room, you couldn't see the black outfit - just the lights - it reminded me of the Zarn! So that was cool.
My Grandfather worked at Fort Leavenworth. I grew up right across the river in Beverly.
Kansas City is my home town. Haven't been to the Renaissance Festival there but used to frequent the one in Larksbur, Colorado.

I've been to a Ren. Festival that is just south of Dayton, OH. Down near Cincinnati. This is always a very cool time down there. They have a mock town set up kinda out in the middle of nowhere and there's always so much to do down there. Shows, games, shops, live jousts and more. I love some of the shops down there. You can buy anything from clothes from that era to real weapons. Of course, none if it is really that cheap but I guess you have to expect that. One of the shops I love going to specializes in incense. It always smells so good in there and I always come out with a huge bag but somehow doesn't last me the year until I go down there again. I'm always burning that stuff in my house. Best air freshener you can buy :-)
I'm not sure if this one is ran by the same people or if they change from city to city from one year to the next or not but it's always a great time going to this one. I'd love to see what some of them are like in other cities, like the one you mentioned out in Kansas. This one is the better part of a 4 hour drive to get down there to it as I live up near lake erie but worth it every time. This one runs from august through early october.
Cheers,
