Hello,

Why did Spencer leave the show after the second season?

I've always heard that he wanted more money.

I remember one LOTL site claimed that he wanted more money. We probably won't know as Spencer has for all intensive purposes dropped off the face of the earth. His costars probably don't wish to comment possibly because they don't know, or do know and respect his privacy. It has been 30 years just about and memories do get hazy. It would have been nice to see him again but considering we've seen or heard from just about the entire cast I'd say we are fortunate. I for one am looking forward to Ron Harper's views on the show and his commentary.

Has there been ANY interviews or articles done on Spenser since he left?
Anyone got any quotes from him?

Weird that he didn't want any part of a reunion with the rest of the cast after 30 years.

Anyone got ANY news on him???

I actually had the privilige to write Spencer and he wrote me back a couple of years ago when he was on-line --(I wrote him through the Studio Dallas site when it was up) I got let him know what a big influence he was on my life when I watched Land of the Lost..he was like a second dad to me when my own dad was out for that day. I also complimented him on acting and wished him well in his life too. I also respected his privacy on why he left the show..I am sure there have been speculations but give credit to all who knew and didn't say word about it. He worte back to me and wished me well, thank me for being a fan of his, thanked me for respecting his privacy and was glad to read such a nice letter from a fan of the show. From what I read, Spencer was doing some driecting short budget films fro Studio Dallas and may have acted in a few flims too. It seems that he likes his privacy, a hard guy to track down to. I am juts gald I got the chance to thnak him and let him know what a good influence he was, not only on me but many kids who were growing up during the show's run..and he said that made him feel good to read that, knowing that he had such good influence like that. It was one of those good memories thing I have now:)

 Will -that is great. Is there anyway we could have his address and write him. I seriously doubt that the "Spencer Mulligan" posting on the other page is the real Spencer. He sounds too far out. Plus, if he is the real Spencer how come he has not posted to any of the other forums? It would be great to write him,but I understand if you can't, because of the privacy issue. I would love to talk to him, and thought it wouldn't hurt to ask. Thanks either way, Dinosaurfan.

Hey Dinosaur fan:)

I don't have Spencer address or where to write him--I wrote to him thoruigh the old site of Studio Dallas-which I don't think is up and running anymore..As George can tell you, or if any lucky others can tell who wrote to Spencer-..he is very hard to track down and kind of a private person..He did at one time had his own site SpencerMilligan.com..but I am not sure that site is up anymore either. From the posted message he wrote back to me, he was geniunely thrilled that he was remembered as Rick Marshall adn that he had such a great effect on kids grwoing up, a father like figure that kids could look upto.

I wish I could give you a real address where to write him..it took me a long time to try and track him down. I never had a snail mail address for hiom..but managed to get him on-line, for the brief time that he was on there.

It not a matter of not telling you nor anyone how to reach Spencer, I don't know myself anymore, but I was just gald that iw as able to let him know that many people here on this site, looked upto him and were thankful for his participation on the show and I wished him continued happiness and good health.

Hope this helps..I wish I could tell you how to reach him-I am sure if he knew just how many people really liked his work, maybe he would come back again and say hello:)-I hope so:)

Sincerely,
Will_S

Spencer did a prime time show in 1976 called "The Keegans" and was more than likley not available to shoot the third year of LOTL.

Hello pastor,
Not that I'm going to contact him as I do respect his privacy, I was wondering how you came across his contact information though? I was just curious. I couldn't even imagine calling that phone number and hearing Rick Marshall's voice on the other end. I wouldn't even know what to say or where to begin. Him and the rest of that show was such a huge influence in my life growing up.

I'm also curious as to what he'd look like these days. It was so cool watching the interviews on the DVDs of the other various cast members and some aged better than others. Watching those episodes, it's hard to believe that they were filmed 30 years ago. Time does go by, I guess, whether you notice it or not
Thanks for the post,

Searching on Google on his name and "Sturgeon Bay", it appears that he is active in directing local theatre.

Thanks for the Contact Info. He is only a 4 hour drive away from my house :)

If he is still directing Local theater, i may have to make the drive out to see one of his shows.

Thanks for the greeting and info Pastor,
Next time I'm in that area, I'd love to check out one of his shows. My wife is a big Packers fan and we've gone to a couple games there. It's only about an hour or so flight from here.
Looks like a nice area up there too. I'd love to get to talk to him but doubt that would ever happen.
Hope you had a happy 4th.

How old is SPENCER MILLIGAN now?

Robbie
07-09-2005, 03:08 AM
In 1974 he probably was in his late 30's or early 40's. So he would be in his late 60's or early 70's roughly.

I recall seeing Spence in a few Hallmark card commercials a few years back. Mostly holiday cards, sitting around in a turtleneck. That was the first I had seen him since LOTL, and thought "So THAT'S where the time doorway led!"

Yes, I would think he's probably in his early 70's. That'd be cool seeing him in say..a christmas card commericial or something like that sitting around in a turtlenect sipping Egg Nog. I guess that beats running away from Grumpy or avoiding the sleestak anyday.

+++ Tia... You're in Bellevue? Cool! Good to know another Buckeye is on here. I'm in Coshocton County, out in the sticks. My train originates in Newark and serves Zanesville and Cambridge, so I don't get to Bellevue unless I drive! I've got a good friend up in Tiffin, and get up that way now and again.

The commercials I recall were at least 20 years ago, and he was simply sitting around a den or sitting room sharing holiday moments with family, and enjoying their Hallmark Christmas cards. I don't specifically recall eggnog, but I do remember him in a dark green turtleneck in one, and a tan/brownish one in another. I agree that that scene is more pleasent the getting a Grumpygram at 0530.

On another matter, since I've gotten involved with this site (and loving every minute of it; my love for this show never diminished, and I've had recorded-from-TV videocasettes of it for years), I've really gotten hot-to-trot again. Of course all the DVDs are here! I've been working on creating a map of "Colemilleure" (COLE mill YUR ee -- needed a name for the Land). One sticking point -- and I'm sure someone can help -- is this: What is the relationship of the Temple to the Lost City? Not sure how they are situated with relation to each other.

Really looking forward to having a blast on this site with all y'all!

Hey wagon,
Yes, lived here in Bellevue most of my life and this is one town that is huge into trains. Sometimes it takes me 15 minutes to get to work and I only live a block away due to having to go around the damn things :D I guess there's a major railroad hub here in this town and is probably the one thing keeping this small town on the map.

Yes, I know tiffin very well. Been through there many times....gotta love all those one-way streets over there. Once a year I think we get down near you somewhat. In October, we vacation down at Hocking Hills State Park. That is so beautiful down there.

To try and answer your question,
It seems to me that the temple is located to the front left of the lost city. As you're facing the main entrance, it's off to the left of that. I would take it as the ancient altrusions and their gods and goddesses like any other culture and that's where they prayed and payed tribute to them. Although as big as the lost city was, I would've thought the temple would be bigger than that.
Thanks for the post and take care,
--Tia

I have actually been able to speak with Spencer Milligan on several occasions. He is a wonderfully humble man and was gracious enough to answer all of my questions about the show and his life. He is a very kind man, he even took time to speak to my children, who are also huge fans of the show. I am actually waiting on some pictures he is sending me. I just thought I would share this information so that you all would know that he is alive and well. :D

Someone put together a map of The LOTL which they posted on one of the threads here. Maybe you can find it in a search, or the person who put together the map will step forward and direct you to it.

good to hear that good news from the Fields family up there on this thread. I knew Milligan is a classy guy. Most of us here were getting worried about him, he made such a big influence in our lives back on those Saturday mornings when Dad wasn't always around, we could always count on Spencer. Even now when I need fatherly advice I'll just pop in one of the Season 1 or 2 dvds and watch it with my daughter.

I think we should all step up here, be respectful and say thank you once again Spencer, for all the lifetime memories you gave to us.

thanks guys

Last year sometime (or perhaps early this year), I wrote an open letter to Spencer Milligan on another thread. The gist of it was to thank him for his contribution to Land of the Lost; express a hope he might consider doing something for the season three DVD (season 2 having been completed), despite his absence from the show by then; and offer best wishes to him, whether he chose to become involved with the DVD projects or not.

belated thanks Rick

After reading so many threads on this guy I guess it's best to just let the man be.
