View Full Version : Dilated Pupils

Sleestaks = natures solution to the
problem of night vision. Why
do you think they can't stand to look
at a torch? They've got permanently
dilated pupils.

I think you are on to something here.

Basically the big red light bulb is the whole eyeball, opened up as wide as possible to let every ounce of light in so they can make their way in the darkness.

I wouldn't be surprised if one match stick were enough to blind them at that rate.

I'm with you George, on everything except
calling them "big red light bulbs" ...
They're big. They're red. But they're
rather dim, closer to stained glass.
Our combined logic is good, however,
up until you consider the "Sleestak
God" episode, where three of them
march right across their front porch,
so to speak, outside of the lost city.

These sleezestak are
slippery little buggers: just
when you think you have 'em figured
they surprise you. I still like
our theory that they can't come
out, sort of a "Creature from the
Black Lagoon meets Dracula" scenario.
That would explain their hibernation,
put it in perspective with temperature,
light & the seasons...

But I just don't think most of the
writers thought that deeply about it,
with some notable exceptions, David
Gerrold and Dick Morgan included.

Enik has red eyes, but I thought the green sleestacks had black ones.

By Joe you're right!

I didn't want to get close enough
to those "yucky sleestaks" to find
out... But they do appear more
blackish than reddish... Do you think it
could have something to do with
the contrast with their green skin?
I'm still hypnotized by their eyes.
How did the 90s ones look? Big eyes?

The 90's version of the Sleestack looked like big talking lizards. They had small eyes that were nothing like the original 70's Sleestack.
I supose that Eniks eyes were different due to the fact that he could go out in daylight with no ill effects. Perhaps the red coloration acted as a sun screen!

Perhaps he wore tinted contact lenses!

Either Enik is wearing red contacts or it's a reflection off the vest. In all "seriousness", perhaps in Enik's time everyone had the red-eye. Or maybe they all wore long, maroon seqined vests. Seems like Enik does much better around light than his sleestak cousins. Enik smoked strawberry leaves is the most likely scenario. Dig the vest baby!
